It's a bit insane and extortionate to buy in the C-Store enough points and was wondering why cryptic made it so expensive as it's more than the subscription it'self.

The 500 emblems are for the retrofit ships (saucer sep galaxy, ablative armor intrepid, and cloaking defiant). You can still buy the RA5 ships for energy credits. They are a bit pricey and for the average person (17 emblems/ day), it would take around 30 days to get. This is a pretty long time but if you are short on cash, it beats having to pay for it :D

in addition to brandons answer: we dont wanna forget that everyone gets one retrofit for free, so noone has to buy his favorite ship class in cstore... even the new ships like the nebula are available ingame for 200 marks of exploration... i like to look at it this way: the ships are available ingame, only those who want to avoid the grinding for them use the c-store option to get them immediately...
